What's TPACK? TPACK stands for Technological Pedagogy Content Knowledge. After watching, TPACK in 2 Minutes, I was able simplify these big ideas. To start there's the content knowledge. Robertson stated, “it’s the what, it’s the subject matter we are teaching” (2013). This includes subjects such as opinion based writing or learning how to read a map. Next is the pedagogical knowledge, she stated “it’s the how” (2013). As a teacher how are you presenting this information to your students, think about what approach will create the most success. Lastly, is technology, “it’s the partner” (Robertson, 2013). It's important to choose a technology piece that helps support your students and the specific content area they are learning. When you piece these three ideas together you can see they go hand in hand, the TPACK comes in where all three overlap and work together. To better comprehend these ideas, I took on Cooking with TPACK. I was challenged to make a sandwich with a bowl, plate and random cooking utensil. The test that this experience set up for me was easily related to a challenge that some of my students may encounter. The cooking utensil that was chosen for me I was unfamiliar with what the tool was specifically used for. Many of my students may have a similar feeling when I provide them with a new online learning application. It's important that I scaffold the learning structure and provide them with the correct lessons that support their findings on the resource or else the technology tool is not applicable. Take a look as I try to make a sandwich and explain my thoughts on this experience. For feedback reach out to me on twitter @misscook! References:
