This past week I dove into 21st Century Learning and the evolution it’s making for the world of education. As I continue to educate the youth it’s important that I am staying up with times and aware of these changes. My time exploring the findings of this century's learnings as well as the controversy were very enlightening. I learned about the 4 C’s which include communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking. Stauffer (2020) states that, “these four skills are essential for modern students to succeed in school and the workplace. They often make the biggest impact in terms of setting your students apart when applying for and starting their careers.” Implementing these skills in my classroom can help to set my second graders up for success as they continue to learn and grow. For a more in-depth explanation and ways that I included the 4 C's into my own classroom take a look at my video below! How important is technology? One thing that surprised me was the different perspectives on 21st Century learning. I personally thought that we all evolved with the times, however, a professor from UT stated, "I think we actually could teach everyone to read (the old way) and for the life of me I cannot understand why schools would spend funds on computers" (Rich, 2010). While the Director of the US Office of Educational Technology stated, "educators can leverage technology to create an engaging and personalized environment to meet the emerging educational needs of this generation" (Rich, 2010). Many of us continue to question both of these opinions and are still learning as we go, but at the end of the day your students are the number one priority and setting them up for success for the future should the first priority.
